Participants get so caught up singing the catchy songs and doing the choreographed movements that they hardly realize how much Spanish they're learning in the process. Each song targets a specific area of the language (i.e. grammar, conversation, vocabulary). Only after performing and enjoying the song repeatedly, do we then explore and discuss the content of each song through mini-lessons. We also incorporate lots of other fun stuff like puppetry, role play, percussion instruments and stories to further enhance the experience, but the song is the thing, the centerpiece around which every lesson is built. And these are songs expressly written to teach the language. They encompass a variety of styles: pop, Latin, rock, reggae, and folk.
A presentation or class can take one of three formats depending on the needs and interest of the sponsoring venue or party. (1) The first format would be as a series of workshops/lessons that are part of an introductory course to Spanish. In this course format, we cover 2 to 3 songs per class (with movement and the aforementioned "fun stuff") followed by a mini-lesson targeting specific language learning points to study and take home. (2) The second format would be a single performance or concert in which 5 to 8 songs are played with lots of audience participation on each song followed by a brief explanation and discussion with the audience. (3) The third format, our fiesta format is used for parties and celebrations, wherein we play our 'hits' and teach our fun choreography as a special feature during the festivities.
